Municipal Area Partnership Receives Award |
| The Municipal Area Partnership (MAP) model for intermunicipal cooperation, of which the Town of Carstairs is a member, has earned high praise from its provincial peers. Representatives of each of the MAP member communities accepted the 2009 Minister's Award for Municipal Excellence - Outstanding Award at the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) Convention in Calgary earlier this month. | Mayor's Message |
On behalf of Town Council, I would like to extend our warmest greetings to those of you who are visiting us through our website. We hope you like what you see, and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Town Office.
We are very proud of our community, and are pleased to preserve our unique country atmosphere, heritage, and quality of life, while cultivating a dynamic and economic environment.
Carstairs provides a fresh alternative to the hustle and bustle of big city life, and we know you will find the quality of life here exactly what you're looking for. Our close proximity to the Calgary International Airport, with easy access on Highway 2 to the business centres of Airdrie and Calgary, also make it extremely convenient for the business commuter.
Carstairs has all the services for convenient daily life, including grocery stores, a pharmacy, restaurants, banks, beauty salons, service stations, medical and professional services. The town has plenty of open space, parks, walking trails, and safe neighbourhoods.
For those of you who may be thinking of making Carstairs your home ... Welcome! For those who have already chosen our community as the best place to be, "See you at the coffee shop!"

I have been Mayor since January 2003 for the Town of Carstairs and look forward to another term serving you. My work prior to serving as Mayor was with the City of Calgary for over 28 years. The Mayor position is ex-officio and I can attend all committees or board meetings. The main committee I attend is MAP, which is the Municipal Area Partnership involving the County and surrounding communities working together on issues that will make our municipalities great places to live. Favourite Quote: Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal. |

This is my first term as a Councillor and I have been appointed to sit on the Carstairs Municipal Library Board, Parkland Regional Library Board, Community Development Committee, CAEP, and Tourism Alberta. In 1994, I worked as a resident aide with the Mountain View Foundation in our Chinook Winds Lodge. I started work for elections; municipal, provincial, and federal governments in 1999. From 2001 to 2002, I walked through Carstairs reading water meters. When the TransCanada Relay 2000 came to town, I was with the Chamber of Commerce and organized this event. I worked with the Tourist Booth here in town, receiving a Certificate of Knowledge in Alberta. I was the program coordinator for Community Service Systems from 2000 - 2003. Favourite Quote: Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding, which must be harnessed with a bit and bridle, else they will not come near you. He who rules over man must be just, ruling in the fear of the Lord. He shall be like the light of the morning when the sun rises, a morning without clouds, like the tender grass springing out of the earth by the clear shining sun. |
