| New School |
The ground breaking ceremony on Sept 4, 2008 was the beginning of construction on a new K-4 school in Carstairs. The $10 million facility will house 12 classrooms, a music room, gymnasium, office space, a school library and municipal library.

| Educational Opportunities |
|
The Town of Carstairs is currently home to two public schools, Hugh Sutherland School and Carstairs Elementary. The Midway Community School, Grades 1 - 6, is located northeast of Carstairs. The Horizon School is designed for students with special needs, and is located in Olds. Post-secondary education is available through Olds College is about 25 minutes north. Post-secondary educational institutions in Calgary such as the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), the University of Calgary, and Mount Royal College are within a one hour drive.

| Hugh Sutherland School |

Hugh Sutherland School is located on the east side of Carstairs along Highway 581. Enrollment is approximately 450 students from grade 5 to grade 12. Middle School is grades 5-8, Highs School, Grades 9-12. The School is part of the Chinook's Edge School Division. Our school will be undergoing some renovations due to kindergarten to grade 4 moving to their own facility. The middle school students will have their own spaces ans the overcrowding of middle and high school will ease. We continue to work on strong academic achievement and in having happy, safe and healthy students. HSS believes in the well rounded educational experience of all students and the course options in Band, Art, Modern languages and CTS courses reelects this belief. In addition to education programs and opportunities, the school offers a solid athletic program, with students participating in volleyball, baseball, badminton, cross country and track.

"Where three and four year old children have an opportunity for positive social interaction. It is an environment where play is the medium through which learning occurs."
- Carstairs Playschool welcomes three and four year old children, regardless of their abilities, race, or denomination.
- All students need to be fully toilet trained.
- Three year olds must have their third birthday by December 31 of the year they plan to attend, and will be unable to attend until their third birth date.
- Space permitting, new students are accepted throughout the school year.

Olds College is located 20 minutes north of Carstairs on Highway 2A. The College is a responsive, innovative and client-centered learning facility dedicated to excellence in careers education, performance-based training, applied research and the provision of customized services provincially, nationally and internationally in the fields of agriculture, horticulture, land and environmental management, agribusiness and rural entrepreneurship. Available programs include Land Resource Management, Agricultural Mechanics, Meat Processing, Landscape Gardening, and Animal Health, to name just a few.
