| Carstairs/Didsbury Citizens on Patrol |
|
Citizens on Patrol (COP) is a non-profit organization of volunteers who assist the local RCMP detachment. The relationship provides law enforcement personnel with a valuable observation and reporting system. The presence of COP in communities help reduce the number of vandalism and other crimes, due in no small part to the number of patrols taken on by the Citizens on Patrol organization. While on patrol, if anything of a suspicious nature is observed, the volunteers are able to relay the information to the police force. This provides the responding officers with an information advantage that can be continually updated. The volunteers become additional eyes and ears for the police force.
Businesses in Carstairs support the Carstairs/Didsbury Citizens on Patrol. These pairs of volunteers patrol Carstairs during the night and report any suspicious vehicles or activities. New volunteers are always welcome. The commitment is one night per month. For more information, contact Jack Paterson at 403-337-3501 or Bob Disney at 403-337-3204.

| Evacuation Plan |
The Town of Carstairs has developed an Evacuation Plan for the community, in the event you are asked to leave your home. Have a battery-operated radio on hand, and listen to local radio station 96.5 CK-fm or (Calgary) radio stations (e.g. 1170 AM, 95.5 FM, 105.5 FM, 98.9 FM), for information, and follow any instructions that may be broadcast. Messages broadcast using the Emergency Public Warning System override all programming on radio and television stations. If you have to leave your home or office, remember to leave a note on the door of your house so family members know where you have gone.
If you are asked to evacuate your home, please proceed in an orderly fashion to the Carstairs Community Hall, where residents will be recorded, bedding and food will be provided until such time as it is safe to return home.

| Emergency Preparedness |
Every municipality, regardless of size or location, can be seriously disrupted by an emergency. This could take the form of a plane crash, severe storm, flood, fire, chemical spill, or similar disaster. While no one can foresee every type of emergency, it is important to plan for as many scenarious as possible. Every resident should be prepared by posting emergency phone numbers prominently in your home, develop an emergency escape plan, prepare an emergency survival kit, and so on.
