The Town of Carstairs and Carstairs Chinook Winds Lodge work in conjunction to offer an in town Meals on Wheels program.
Meals on Wheels program provides nutritious and affordable meals to your door, providing you with hot lunches Monday - Friday. Meals on Wheels are still delivered to your door even if a holiday falls on a weekday. This service is offered on both a short-term and long-term basis. Meals can be received 1-5 days a week, depending of individual choice.
Meals on Wheels, is a volunteer-based community support service for individuals to help them maintain their health and independence at home. Our screened volunteers deliver the meals. This program also serves as a check-in service on the wellbeing of the recipient and provides social contact.
The meals are prepared by Chinook Winds Lodge, and the cost for the hot lunch is $15.50 per meal.
Who can receive Meals on Wheels? Individuals, who by receiving nutritional support are better able to maintain independence and well-being in their own homes, including:
- Seniors (65+)
- Adults (18+) - who are chronically ill, living with physical or mental disability, convalescing from surgery or illness, or undergoing medical treatment

Are volunteers needed?

What are the goals of the Meals on Wheels program?
In addition to providing nutritious meals, this volunteer-based support service allows members of the community to remain in their home as an alternative to costly retirement or nursing residences. Daily visits from Meals on Wheels volunteers provide peace of mind and support to their loved ones and themselves.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Payment is done by automatic withdrawals, through Mountain View Seniors Housing. The client fills out a form and provides a “VOID” cheque. The form and check are then forwarded to Chinooks Winds Lodge for processing.
How do I request Meals on Wheels?
Fill out the online application, or contact Community Services Department 403.940.3327. Service can be requested by individuals, family members, friends or any health care personnel.
Do I have to get a hot meal every day?
No, there is no minimum requirement. You can receive meals 1 to 5 days per week.
Are hot meals available on statutory holidays or weekends?
Hot Lunch Meals are available on statutory holidays, as long as the statutory holiday falls on a weekday. Meals are not delivered on Saturday or Sunday.
What if I have dietary restrictions?
It is important that you let us know if you have dietary restrictions, so that we can help you meet those needs. No added salt and diabetic meals are available in the hot lunch meal program. Where are the meals prepared?
The Hot Lunch Meals are prepared in the Carstairs Chinook Winds Lodge.
When are the meals delivered?
Hot lunch meals are delivered around the noon hour, Monday through Friday.
Can a hot meal be cancelled for a specific day?
Yes, a hot meal may be cancelled (for example, if the client has an appointment over the noon hour) by calling 403.940.3327. No fee will be charged for a meal that is cancelled before 9:00 a.m. the day of delivery.
Clients may also make arrangements with the office to leave their meal with a neighbor on days they will not be home due to appointments.
